Videogame legend Hip Tanaka's long-awaited debut album is finally available on vinyl! His illustrious career has taken him from games like EarthBound and Super Mario Land to TV and feature films, but this collection of 13 tracks from his own personal label, available here on clear vinyl, represents a new creative pinnacle.

It's the fruit of two decades of Tanaka channeling his singular inner whimsy and his love for reggae, dub, and techno to bridge the gap between game music and dance music. Says Tanaka, whose live shows have taken him across Japan and abroad: “If my music can be divided into ʻfor adultsʼ and ʻfor kids,ʼ then this is the culmination of my harder side, the kind of game music you hear in EarthBoundʼs battle tracks.”

All copies from this first pressing of 500 will include a bonus 7-inch record with two additional tracks. Each Django vinyl purchase also includes an instant digital download of the complete album in your choice of MP3, WAV, or FLAC.

And stay tuned—the second Chip Tanaka album, Domingo, will arrive on vinyl later this winter.

A Bizarro Exercise In Musical Enjoyment
What a delightful album! Go into it with an open mind and a sense of adventure, and you're guaranteed to have a good time. I would describe the album as "glitchtune," as some songs entirely eschew melody for some free-form racket and noise. Still, it's a blast to listen to, and is simply a "fun" album, perfect for when you don't want something too heavy. The packaging and overall layout of the sleeve and jacket convey this vibe nicely, and the clear vinyl sounds just fine, with sharp, clean notes and playback. I can only hope this album gets a restock at some point down the line - few records in my collection bring a smile to my face the way this one does :-D

Great Music, Great Design
I actually hadn't listened to the music that much prior to purchasing this because I really wanted a good clear vinyl record for my collection, but I was pleasantly surprised by the great music on it. Makes sense coming from an artist who worked on Soundtracks like Earthbound. One of the fun things I noticed was how the little tomato on the front of the vinyl record was whole, and was cut in half on the other side. Overall a great purchase and would definitely recommend.

Fangamer, the absolutely wondrous providers of some of the best releases ever, have endowed the blessing of Chip Tanaka's first album, "Django", to us. There's very little that hasn't been said about this album, aside from the notion that this album is a chiptune/Picopop fan's dream. Produced and curated by the very man who graced our earliest home consoles in the form of Mother, Metroid, and many many more iterations, this is guaranteed to return you to an era long-lost, and disassociate to a better place.
