Description:

Before you is a house. A large house. A house of creaky floors. A house of long corridors. A house of dust caked carpets and candle smoke stains, stretching along the walls like grimy fingers. A house that no living thing should ever enter. Yet here you are.

Are you brave enough? Welcome to… MANSION.

Inside you'll find 280 pages filled with interviews, essays, and the histories behind classic games, along with art and galleries from, and inspired by, all the games that go bump in the night. Unlike an abandoned manor rising at the top of a hill over tangled and overgrown hedges, it's clear someone's been taking care of MANSION—this hardcover edition features glow-in-the-dark cover accents and black-edged pages.

A collaboration between Fangamer and Lost in Cult, THE HORROR examines the foundational hits, cult classics, indie nightmares and obscure curiosities of gaming. The first volume in the series is MANSION, all about creepy castles, unkind estates, and cursed digital architecture. Will you enter?

Not great... just ok
Quiet simply there is way, way too much empty space in the book and screen shots of the games are way too small for the space that they were given. One thing about books like these is that a lot of these games, there is a good chance that the reader hasn't played any of these games and as much text that is given that is insightful at times a picture is worth a thousand words. Some games at are super important like Alone in the Dark and was given a three paltry screen shots. Box art for a lot of the games is given very small real estate on the pages as well and in addition to that there are giant white boxes around them making the shots even smaller. Chapters start with basically large box of text that have the name of the game... why? That is where the big beautiful box art should be displayed not 3 pages later in small jpeg that can barely be seen. The game Fear is a good example as I had never heard of the game before. The box art is so small I had to go online to see proper detail on it. I shouldn't have to do that is why I have the book. Overall I am disappointed in the book because, small screenshots, small box art and huge amounts of wasted space. Hopefully if there is a second book these things will be corrected.

Coolest Book I Own Right Now
First of all, the exterior of the book is GORGEOUS. I love the black edges and the glow in the dark, embossed letters on the front cover excites me so much. I've just received it and read a few pages and I can already tell this lengthy book will be a fascinating read. I believe this book is not so much about the creation of horror games but a bit more about the psychological/philosophical aspect of a player's experience when playing a specific game. Either way, I know I'm going to savor each page! These kinds of books are RARE. Thank you for making this collection!

Incredibly well.
The book is crafted very well and is very high quality! It has a glossy finish on the cover, and the inside is a nice white word contrast on black paper. The book is very in depth on several various horror games and horror elements, from famous ones such as clock tower, silent hill, and resident evil, to lesser known ones such as haunting grounds, homebody and world of horror. If you are an horror game fan much like me, or are even toying around with the idea of creating your own horror game akin to these, this book delivers a lot of very unique and interesting insight into what makes this genre one of the bests. It is an absolute must buy in my opinion!
