Got to meet with Dean Axelrod today, it went really well — he’s definitely the guy I’m gonna work with for lawyerly stuff. Also got another huge batch of headers, but there’s too many to post, so I’m gonna do a queue thing kinda like the Halloween Funfest. Also some good news about the forum advertising, which has made a minor recovery from its Thanksgiving slumber. But first, three selections from our latest round of Banner Contest updates:
So I got another inbox-full of submissions today — by now I’ve gotten about 35, bringing our total to about 55. Dang! Posting these things is a lot of work, so I’m gonna start putting them in a queue and will just post about 6 every time I update. I’m not posting them in any particular order, so if yours doesn’t show up for a while, be patient; it’ll go up sooner or later :)
Anyway, thanks to all of you guys for your submissions, I really appreciate all the work you’ve put into these banners :D I’ve posted 6 new banners on the Banner Contest page, go check em out.
In advertising news, the ads on the forum have recovered from their inexplicable Thanksgiving slump, so I’m not as nervous as I was before. I’m still confident that things are gonna work out money-wise as long as I can keep the cashflow coming from donations, merchandise (we’ve got some cool merchandise ideas in the pipes), and advertising.
On to the lawyer adventures for today: I showed up at the lawyer’s place and finally met Dean, who is a really great guy. We talked about all kinds of business stuff, and even though I felt kinda weird talking about basing a business off of a 12-year-old video game, he followed every step of the way without any sidelong glances or second-guesses.
The reason I chose him out of the 5 billion other lawyers in Tucson is because his website is pretty nice and he actually has a blog, which shows that he understands the potential/impact of the internet. Having worked with more than just a few lawyers, I know this is pretty rare. He even asked me if I might be able to help him with some website stuff, so I’m confident that he’s the right choice.
Anyway, I’ve got tons of stuff to do, so I’m getting back to work instead of drawing this update out any longer. Tonight and tomorrow: the search for a CPA begins. Lets hope it ends quickly, heh.
I trekked over to Dean’s site myself just now (http://www.axelrodmanagement.com) and I gotta say, it’s almost as spiffy as a Reidesigned site. ;D Seriously tho, I love his blog: “Successfully growing a business is like raising a child. If the child is properly nurtured she will learn how to solve problems in an age-appropriate manner, learning how to solve bigger and more complicated problems as she matures. […] A child that does not develop these skills will lose […] the energy and excitement that boost creativity. […] She will have aged without even realizing the fruits of her youth.”
Dude. I think he just called FanGamer a girl. :O
I do have to ask, has he played Earthbound? He probably should play Earthbound. If he owns a Wii, he could download Earthbound when it hits the VC.
You can only ask so much. Having a website is a stretch for many lawyers, so you can imagine how lucky I am to have found one with not only a good website, but a blog too :O
